1,514 high school seniors were selected as Semifinalists from a pool of over 103,800 submitted applications from across the country based on their academic excellence, leadership, and service demonstrated in school and community activities. The Semifinalists are in the running for 150 college scholarships worth $20,000 each.

Local farmer Shawn Carr, of Carr farms, recently directed a $5,000 Bayer Fund America’s Farmers Grow Communities donation to the Land Lab of Isle of Wight County Schools. The Land Lab will use the funds to renovate a greenhouse for use at the Land Lab.

In honor of School Bus Transportation Employees Appreciation Day, IWCS celebrated bus drivers with an appreciation breakfast this week. Breakfast was held at SMS on Wednesday for the Smithfield/Carrollton drivers, and on Thursday for the Windsor/Carrsville drivers.

With the concern for flooding and strong winds across the county this afternoon, all Isle of Wight County Schools and Offices will be dismissing TWO (2) hours early today. In addition, all after school activities are canceled for today.

The RAPTOR system is an advanced visitor management tool designed to enhance the safety of our schools. It reads a visitor's identification (such as a driver's license or state-issued photo ID card), cross-references it against a national database of registered sex offenders from all 50 states, and promptly alerts administrators if a match is found.

All Isle of Wight County Schools and Offices are closed Friday, September 1, and Monday, September 4, for the Labor Day holiday. We look forward to welcoming back students for the new school year on Tuesday, September 5.

Mark your calendars and come out for the Castle Community Celebration Friday, Oct. 27th! Between 4pm - 6pm there will be free food, activities, and lots of fun leading up to the home Varsity Football game at 7pm. Students attend wearing pink and receive a discount on your ticket to the football game!
